Guide: Kneeboard Rope Length, Type & Handle

The best kneeboards will help you become a better knee boarder at any level. The following are some of the characteristics to consider while purchasing pull ropes.

Rope Length

How long should a kneeboard rope be? The most frequent length is 60′ to 70′, although sizes are flexible.

The mainline is the total length of the rope. Tow lines that are too short, especially below 50 feet, will result in a very close distance between the kneeboarder and the boat, resulting in inefficient spraying and little space to perform stunts. Slingshots can be formed when tow lines are excessively lengthy or stretchy.

Some rope is sold with sections. Some rope comes with parts that can be removed to decrease the length of your main line.

Rope Types

The type of rope you choose will have an impact on how you kneeboard. Non-stretch and low-stretch are the two most frequent types.

No-Stretch

These are constructed of Spectra, which is extremely long-lasting, water-resistant, and nonelastic. The Spectra material keeps the rope lighter and prevents wear and fatigue when grasping the rope handle.

Some no-stretch ropes are also made of dyneema. Dyneema is a lightweight and long-lasting material. It withstands UV rays, saltwater, and abrasion well and is also highly resistant to abrasion.

Kneeboarding using Spectra rope has several advantages. It’s great for Kneeboarders looking to improve their trick-performing abilities. Stiffer, tighter, and non-stretch ropes will give you more air as well as allow you to pull yourself through flips and spins.

Low-Stretch

These ropes have some give to them. They are mostly composed of polyethylene or a blend of polyethylene and other materials. Low-stretch ropes have enough elasticity without being too flexible for kneeboarders riding recreationally.

Multi-Purpose

Tow ropes that can be used for a variety of water tow sports are available. Some wakeboarding ropes, for example, may be used by advanced kneeboarders, whereas some low-stretch tow lines may be utilized by both novice waterskiers and kneeboarders.

Kneeboard Rope Handles

The majority of Kneeboards have handles that are 13-15 inches wide. The wider grip makes it simpler to perform tricks that require the handle to be passed behind the rider’s back.

Due to the need to pass the handle behind the back, wider grips aid riders when performing tricks.

The palms-down grip, in which the hands are positioned face downward as you grasp the ski rope, is my preferred technique.

Kneeboarders grip the handle of a baseball bat.

The handle is made of lightweight neoprene foam that keeps the handle afloat. The grip is enhanced with EVA expanding foam rubber, which is generally used in sports equipment.

Kneeboard rope handles also include characteristics that make spin techniques more convenient. A rope braid or a smaller handle grip is integrated into the rope for these reasons.

Kneeboard Rope Care & Safety Tips

  • Before heading out on the water, check your rope for any damage or wear and tear to ensure its safe use.
  • Do not use a rope with knots, unraveling, or sun damage.
  • Remember to only use kneeboarding ropes that are designed for you.
  • When you’re done using it, remove any muck, rinse with clean water, and store in a cool, dry location away from direct sunshine.
